Last Thursday, UCLA EAP students studying in Edinburgh and Glasgow were joined by Bruin alumni based in Scotland for the first ever “UCLA Welcome to Scotland” event. The Bruins gathered at the Edinburgh Study Centre for a wonderful night of food, fun and an exciting pub quiz! Among some of the Bruin alums that joined the 6 EAP students were former Scottish MP Calum MacDonald, University of Edinburgh Professor of Islamic and Arabic Studies Dr. Andrew Newman and PhD candidate at Edinburgh Business School Duncan Chapple.

The evening started off with a presentation on UCEAP by UK Study Centre Programme Manager, Hilary Noyce, where she discussed the variety of international exchange opportunities offered to students and the dedication and efforts of the UC Trust in providing scholarships to students. After, UCLA Alumna and Chancellor’s Fellow at Edinburgh University, Dr. Bonnie Auyeung, acted as “Quiz Master” for the main event of the evening–a very exciting and energetic pub quiz that tested teams on a variety of Scottish, American and UCLA trivia.

The event concluded with a wine and canapés reception where the Bruin alumni and EAP students were able to share advice, questions and contacts with each other. To cap-off the night, in true UCLA fashion, the group gathered to perform the infamous UCLA “8-Clap” ritual together. Overall, the evening was a great success and provided EAP Scotland participants a wonderful opportunity to network with their Bruin community here in Scotland!
