This past Thursday the London Study Centre hosted Beyond Study Abroad – a special event bringing together UCEAP students, UC Alumni, and prominent members of the international community in London to expand on the multitude of paths students can take after graduation to return to the UK.
The evening began with a panel on post-graduate studies, featuring both current and past Master’s and Doctoral students who graduated from UC’s and pursued further education in the United Kingdom, as well as a presentation by a representative from the Fulbright Commission and information about postgraduate internship opportunities.
This was followed by a talk by representatives from the US Embassy about the careers offered by the US diplomatic service and how if you have caught the travelling bug, it opens up the whole word to live and work! Then it was time for a short break for some Chipotle burritos, which always go down well with Californians! Following this Emily Seto, member of the UC Alumni UK Board and co-president of the UCSB Alumni Club in the UK chaired a panel of UC alumni now living and working in the UK, in fields ranging from film to law to business consulting. Students were very interested in the career paths the alumni had taken and how to obtain that crucial visa! This was followed by a quick session led by UC alum Johana Canda Fiserova on how to network and use LinkedIn professionally before the event concluded with a reception that allowed students to speak to alumni on a more personal basis – and practice those networking skills!
