An American Thanksgiving in Dublin

This past weekend more than 300 UCEAP students currently studying at host institutions in England, Ireland and Scotland convened in Dublin, Ireland for the UCEAP UK & Ireland Programmes’ annual Thanksgiving event.

Hosted in an iconic Dublin venue, the event began with a welcome address from Hilary Noyce, the Programme Manager, and Monika Kraska, the Senior Programme Officer. Among the staff in attendance, we were pleased to welcome Melody Knutson, UCEAP Regional Manager, who announced the winners of our three programme-wide competitions. Students won first, second and third place prizes for their outstanding photographs, blog posts, and videos. You can read more about our winners – and see their entries! – by clicking here.

Several UC Alumni currently based in the UK also attended the evening’s festivities, enjoying an American holiday with a special Irish twist, and even addressing the students to share their experiences and offer a truly California welcome to UK & Ireland.
Students, staff and alumni alike all enjoyed a traditional American Thanksgiving meal, including turkey, cranberry sauce, roast vegetables, and even cornbread! As dessert was served, an Irish band provided lively entertainment for everyone in attendance, and had students out of their chairs and dancing along in no time. Entertainment for the event also included traditional Irish dancers, who even brought a few students up to showcase their skills. As the evening came to an end, students collected special Irish souvenirs before heading home.

All in all, the event was a rousing success, and our Californian students were able to enjoy a lovely American holiday in a once-in-a-lifetime setting.
