There are two scholarships available for UCEAP students in the UK: the Melanie Woiwode Memorial Scholarship and the Student Support Scholarship. Applications for these scholarships are due in October for Fall term students, and on February 15th for Spring students.

Below we’ve profiled just a couple of our Fall 2014 scholarship recipients to give you an idea of all the opportunities available to UC students in the UK!

Melanie Woiwode Memorial Scholarship Recipient for Badminton

Though I had played badminton as a physical education class, I never had the experience of being on a team and working with players of varying levels. The Melanie Woiwode Scholarship provided me the means to have that experience—through the grant, I was able to purchase my own racket, practice with the Edinburgh University Badminton Club, and engage in badminton games…I highly recommend all UCEAP participants to apply for the scholarship. It pushed me to follow through with my sport and to reflect on my experiences. It also cleared away the stress of worrying about the financial side of playing a sport at the university.”

Melanie Woiwode Memorial Scholarship Recipient for Caving

I loved being a part of the club, but it did cost money. Between the membership fees, the cost for the weekend trips, and the supplies I needed to purchase, the fees were adding up. The Melanie Woiwode Memorial Scholarship helped to lessen these fees. Living abroad is expensive and this scholarship gave me the chance to enjoy the Caving Club without being worried about the cost.

In the past, other students have also received scholarships for activities as diverse as academic conferences and joining a trampolining society! For more information on the scholarships and their past recipients, please visit our Scholarships page.
