On Sunday, July 12, more than 120 UC alumni, students, and friends gathered for an incredible summer barbecue in Hyde Park!
Hosted by the UC Trust UK, this very special annual event included a celebration of the Team UC British 10K runners, who used their admirable athletic prowess to raise funds for student scholarships across the University of California. UC alumni who now live, work or study in the United Kingdom were joined by UCEAP England students as well as incoming students who live in the UK and will be starting their UC journey this fall.
The celebration was catered by the ever popular MotherFlipper, who provided gourmet burgers and fries for all in attendance. After a lovely lunch, campus breakouts gave everyone the chance to spend some time with their fellow alumni and discuss future events, like those that will be held to welcome incoming UCEAP students for a fall term in the UK. An inter-campus competition got everyone’s blood pumping in the afternoon, and despite valiant efforts from UCLA in both the three-legged race and the hula hoop competition, the UC Davis team took home the top prize for their impressive showing in the tug of war.
The UC Trust brought the event to a close with a ceremony for all the British 10K runners from Team UC, and cupcakes from Buttercup Bakery – owned by a UC Davis alumna! – provided a sweet end to the day. All in all, the event was a rousing success and everyone is already looking forward to next year’s UC Summer Barbecue!
