Allison Klas, a third-year from UCI, has used her physical prowess in track to both keep active and to make unforgettable connections during her time at Trinity College Dublin. Read about her account here!
I am a third year Business Administration major who has chosen to study at Trinity College Dublin during my time abroad. To get involved on campus, I decided to join the Harriers and Athletics team (equivalent to Cross Country and Track and Field), and I absolutely love it! My teammates have added to this awesome experience living in Ireland. They’re extremely encouraging, full of laughter, and passionate about running. I used to run competitively and I had been missing it and being a part of a team. Running for Trinity has allowed me compete again as well as make friends with lovely, Irish people.
I’ve competed in two races to date (IUAA Indoor Championship meet, Athlone; Cross Country race vs. UCD, Phoenix Park, Dublin), and will race once more in April at the IUAA Outdoor Track Championships. I’m really looking forward to leaving it all out on the track!
Being a part of the team has definitely added to my abroad experience. The main thing I wanted to do while I was here was meet Irish people; I feel like I’ve more than simply met people, but also became good friends with them too. It has also allowed me to see parts of Dublin that I probably wouldn’t have seen otherwise, whether it was seeing the beach during a practice run, or going to the Nancy Hands Pub after dominating in our race against UCD. I’m super glad I get to have this experience in a city that I’ve fallen in love with and surrounded by wonderful people!
