Our biannual visit to the Houses of Parliament allows students to explore the landmark that is Westminster Abbey, while learning about the operations of the British Parliament. Attendees also have the opportunity to witness a debate in the House of Commons or the House of Lords.
In Spring 2014, UCEAP students studying in the UK and Ireland were given the opportunity to explore the Scottish Highlands on a trip that started in Edinburgh, and included visits to the Inverness via Blair Castle and Aviemore. Students also enjoyed a boat tour of Loch Ness before heading back to Edinburgh via the incredible Glen Coe.
Beyond Study Abroad
One of the London Study Centre’s most dynamic events of the term, Beyond Study Abroad brings in representatives from the US Foreign Service, the Fulbright Commission, BUNAC and an entire panel of UC alumni to talk to current students about living, working and studying in the UK after finishing your undergraduate degree. One-on-one networking as well as presentations help students learn about how they can return to London through any number of career paths, including diplomatic work, fashion retailing, management consulting and postgraduate study.
‘I really enjoyed the whole event. It was nice to hear the benefits (especially financial) of postgraduate study in the UK. Also, it was extremely interesting to hear the UC alumni speak about their many different career paths, all of which have led them to London. It’s nice to know there are so many options available, as well as a vast network of resources within the UC community.’ – Lizzie Beard, UC Santa Cruz-Queen Mary University London
London Eye & High Tea
In order to make sure students did not leave the UK without the quintessential London experience, UCEAP organized a final farewell tour that included a group visit to the London Eye and a traditional High Tea service in Trafalgar Square, combining both spectacular views and decidedly British treats for a proper send-off.
UC Summer Picnic
This annual event brings together current UC students studying abroad in the UK through a UCEAP program and UC alumni living in the UK for a day of fun at London’s famed Hyde Park. Games, a raffle supporting student scholarships, and a catered picnic meal offer make for a lovely summer afternoon for all involved.
UCEAP students and UC Alumni alike participate in this annual event to raise money for student scholarships designed to support UC students who spend a term or year abroad in the UK. Last year’s team included nineteen alumni from UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Los Angeles, UC San Diego and UC Santa Barbara as well as four UCEAP students, and raised a total of £6500!
Windsor & Eton Trip
Students explored the historic Windsor Palace with UCEAP this past spring, where a guided tour of the long-held British royal residence was accompanied by a visit to Eton to round out this enriching day trip into the country.
