QMUL is the only university in London with a self-contained residential campus, making it the perfect study abroad destination for UC students looking to live right on campus and still be in the middle of the city! The well-respected academic environment is enhanced even further by the active population who call the Student Village home. Whether you want to enjoy the newly refurbished health and fitness centre in the Students’ Union or split a pizza from Ground Cafe with your new friends, there’s always something to do at QMUL! If you are interested in getting involved in charitable works on or off campus, the Student Union at QMUL organizes more than 1200 volunteer opportunities annually. If you’d rather spend your free time another way, be sure to check out one of the 40 free ‘turn up and play’ sport sessions the university organises each week. Even better, the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park – home to some of the most exciting events from the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London – is so close you can see it from campus! Students at QMUL can even enjoy the London Aquatics Centre at a special discounted rate; just remember to keep an eye out for the gold-medal winning Olympians who still train there!

Living in East London

Located right in the heart of East London, QMUL is nestled between the City and Canary Wharf, the two major financial districts in the capital, and rests right alongside the beautiful Regent’s Canal. Not only will you find nine distinct food outlets on campus, but you’re also only ten minutes away from a famous Brick Lane curry or the latest street food sensation at Spitalfields Market. Equally close is the Westfield Stratford City, one of Europe’s largest urban shopping centres!

With Mile End Tube station only a five minute walk from campus, all of London is at columbia road marketyour doorstep when you study abroad at the Queen Mary University of London. Spend a Sunday morning at the Columbia Road Flower Market or build a sandcastle at the Victoria & Albert Museum of Childhood in nearby Bethnal Green. You can be shopping on Oxford Street fifteen minutes after leaving your on-campus accommodation, or relaxing in Victoria Park in even less time. London is home to literally hundreds of museums and galleries, many of which are either free or offer a student discount on entry, so there is always something new to discover!
