Sotheby’s Institute programmes are designed to offer students a pathway to a career in the international art world and as such the curriculum provides continuous opportunity for networking as part of each student’s professional development. The intensive, semester-long courses are split evenly between time spent in the classrooms of Sotheby’s Institute’s traditional Georgian building and hours spent at different galleries, museums and art houses around London.
Attending SIA also gives students exclusive, behind-the-scenes access to the Sotheby’s Auction House and Warehouse, an otherwise completely private space dedicated to housing and processing works of art and other valuables for auction. In the past, some of the guest lecturers for Sotheby’s Institute students in London have included the Assistant Curator of the National Portrait Gallery, top antique dealers, and even the Senior Cultural Policy Officer from the Mayor of London’s Office! These unique opportunities combined with the hands-on nature of the courses make SIA the ideal study abroad destination for UC students interested in pursuing a career in the art business.
